THE POWER OF STORIES

When we were kids, we reveled in stories.  Stories of epic battles and glorious victories… stories of heartbreak and accomplishment… stories of compassion and forgiveness sparked our imagination.  When we grew up and entered the world of work, many of us left stories behind and embraced the pursuit of data and the realm of elaborate multi-media presentations.

Yet, how many of us remember the seventy-two page slide presentation we sat through last week?  Better yet, how many of us were moved to action by a series of day-long, computer-generated slide shows?

Great leaders are often great storytellers.  Did George Washington, Winston Churchill, Martin Luther King, Jr. or Gandhi use slick PowerPoint presentations to inspire and lead their followers?

Of course not, they told stories!

Stories create power.  Stories cause people to imagine.  Stories teach.  Stories heal.  Stories engage people’s hearts.  Stories can accelerate individual and organizational effectiveness.

People don’t think in bullet points; they think in stories.

How can you use stories in your organization?  Stories can communicate complex messages simply.  Stories can bring a vision of tomorrow to life today.  Stories can be used to celebrate successes.  Stories can honor tradition.  Stories have the power to catapult your business to new levels of growth and success.
